Little Journeys to the Homes of Eminent Artists/Google Books

Little Journeys to the Homes of Eminent Artists
Author Elbert Hubbard
Publisher The Roycrofters, 1902
Overview

A little wordy and eccentric, but interesting back stories. If you are studying the Arts and Crafts movement, Hubbard was influential in the United States.

More about The Roycrafters here.

You won't believe it, but we are very familiar with Elbert Hubbard. He lived in East Aurora, NY, an hour's drive from our village. It's a beautiful town. Hubbard founded an artists' colony and built the Roycroft Campus, which can be still seen today.

I'll take a look at the book, it looks very interesting.

What a coincidence. I'll have to look that up. Thanks for the background information - sounds interesting. :)

You found some information :)! The Roycroft Inn has been completely rebuilt and is a great hotel/restaurant. Hubbards sayings can be found on signs and even trash cans throughout East Aurora. You can also buy china and furniture in his style.

Yes, thank you. I had saved this book last year and just discovered it again in my Google library. I think I was confusing it with another series. After a review, I realized this is borderline art history - more a study of culture and the arts for older students. I changed the label.

The artist colony and inn sound like a worthwhile place to visit. Upstate NY is very beautiful. When I was in junior high school, I went to a two week summer ballet camp at the Saratoga NY college campus(SUNY). My parents and I had come back to the states to visit grandparents in Pennsylvania for vacation from Venezuela.

I have been to the Saratoga area once, many years ago before I was married. Now we live more west than that.

Did you keep up with ballet? Does your daughter do ballet?

I didn't keep up with ballet. We moved away from Venezuela, and I took up track and field in high school(Panama).

My daughter doesn't do ballet, but I am seriously considering it. She has a much stronger build(like her daddy) and more flexibility than I did as a child; she would probably do well.
