When I saw the author, I thought that he must be German, and after some research, I found him. He is indeed German. I hope that I will be able to find this book in German. Thanks for posting!

Is this it? My German is not very good, but I think this is it:

Here is another one in German:

Look to the "related books" links(at the above link) for more of his books in German. Also check here under his name:

I'll be listing more from the above link. ChristianBook.com has many of his translated books under the Lamplighter publisher.

"He was the pioneer writer of books for children, and his great merits are fully acknowledged by both Catholic and Protestant writers on pedagogics."

You are right, your German must be pretty good. I found a German site for some of his works here. I also discovered that he wrote some popular German Christmas carols. What a find! There are even some reprints of his books. Thanks again for this.

Ich erkenne Wörter, aber bitte mich nicht mich zu unterhalten!

Okay, I cheated and used a translator. ;) And it looks wrong.

I recognize words, but do not ask me to converse!

I'm glad you liked this find.

If you put a comma in your sentence, it would be correct, although somehow stiff:

Ich erkenne Wörter, aber bitte mich nicht, mich zu unterhalten.

Better would be:

Ich kenne einige Wörter, aber kann mich leider nicht fließend unterhalten.

That was my German lesson for the day!

Yes! The comma is better, but I knew it was still a bit weird(stilted). You are making me want to learn more German. :) I found an old Spanish book(high school) at the thrift store last week. I've been reviewing my Spanish - much fun. I'll look for a German one.

Would your library have a book?

I thought I had to share that my dad just sent me three stories in German by von Schmid. He found an old book by him. One of the stories is "The Basket of Flowers.":)
