Published in 1880, this book is a structured language program focusing on grammar and vocabulary with conversational stories for learning the spoken language. Reading level is about fourth or fifth grade. Click here.
The Child's German Book/Google Books
Published in 1870, a learning German book for children. It begins easily with letters and progresses to poetry and stories for about the fourth and fifth grade level. Some of the stories were so wonderful that I found myself wanting to learn, and reading along. I found this book to be a much more interesting way to learn a language compared to modern texts which tend to be rather dry and skeletal.The book teaches German using the beautiful older German letters.
